About the department

King’s Careers & Employability (KC&E) facilitates excellent job management and placement services that support our students and alumni, enabling them to develop effective career skills and building a platform for future success.

We are part of the wider Student Management and Education, a group of broad-based professional services that exist to support and educate King’s students. As a directorate, we manage the student lifecycle from application to graduation and beyond, to ensure a cohesive and seamless student experience and efficient administrative processes, and work closely with King Colleges to do so.

The King’s Experience sub-team is located within the Student Career Engagement (SCE) work stream within KC&E. The College of Continuing Education team supports students at all levels throughout the institution, as well as alumni, to access information, tips, events, opportunities, and e-learning to assist them in their career journeys. As a team, we work specifically to address sector-wide and institutional factors and barriers that contribute to differences in progression among students from underrepresented backgrounds.

About the role

The Project Assistant (King’s Experience) will be responsible for managing all co-curricular learning programs and opportunities as part of the King’s Experience portfolio. It includes award programs, opportunity funds, and research fellowships. The role holder will work closely with the Project Coordinator to ensure that all projects and programs are delivered on time and budget; And to supervise the day-to-day operational and administrative activities on which the project work is based. The role holder will also be expected to work closely with other members of the College of Continuing Education team to ensure that communications and outreach activities for projects and programs are implemented in line with priority needs and identified gaps, and this is done with the student’s voice in mind.

basic tasks

  • Create and maintain project management systems and processes, operational planning, budgetary control, and processes that support, enable and complement the work of the King’s Experience team and profile.
  • Plan, schedule and facilitate awards, opportunities, and fellowship programs for students.
  • keep accurate records of all King’s Experience financial activities; Ensure payments are processed up to deadline and budget.
  • Liaise proactively with students and other internal partners, such as academic and career services colleagues, to ensure projects needs are met.
  • Maintenance of the King’s Experience SharePoint site and KEATS pages.
  • Create and produce creative and innovative content and campaigns in consultation with the Careers Communications team, sourcing content and case studies that show improved results and improved employability.

Basic criteria

1. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. The ability to diversify the style of communication according to the audience.

2. Excellent time management skills to effectively manage projects. Ability to multitask, work well under pressure, work efficiently to meet strict deadlines and handle competing tasks and priorities.

3. Ability to work well in a team environment and willingness to support others.

4. Highly organized, with high levels of attention to detail.

5. The ability to show initiative and feel confident in coming up with new ideas and taking responsibility for projects.

6. Ability to work independently and without direct supervision to ensure projects are completed up to deadline.

Desired criteria

1. Proficient in using Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook, Teams).

2. Creative use of social media and other digital communication platforms as promotional tools.
