You may have heard of Skillshare. You may have heard that it costs money. However, in certain circumstances, you may be able to apply for a Skillshare scholarship to help you cover the cost or fully cover the cost of your Skillshare membership.
Here, we will take a detailed look at Skillshare Scholarships and how you can apply for them.
What is Skillshare?
Skillshare is an online platform for learning everything from business to hand sewing. Each course is a series of understandable videos that you can watch on your own time.
If you really want to get your hands dirty, most courses include activities that you can do in your own time between videos to enhance your skills.
For the most part, Skillshare lives on your desktop browser, although there is an app you can download to capture your videos on the go.
To be clear, most Skillshare require a subscription, although new users get a one-week free trial. After that, a Skillshare subscription costs $13.99 per month, and is billed annually.
However, there are special rates for groups or for more time-limited subscriptions. And in special circumstances, you may be eligible for a Skillshare scholarship.
How to Find a Skillshare Scholarship Program
From any Skillshare page, scroll down and select Scholarships From the banner menu at the bottom of the page. Click on Browse Scholarships Top of the page, or scroll down manually to find scholarships that are active at that time.
Each scholarship contains a thumbnail and a brief description, so you can get a good idea of whether you qualify before trying to apply.
For example, economic inability to pay rates may qualify. Or the ability to prove that you are a student with an active university email address may be eligible.
Some of these scholarships are pretty standard, but some change and new scholarships come and go. So, if you are not eligible for any active scholarships today, keep coming back.
In the meantime, scroll down to find information about past scholarships. Previous scholarships cannot be guaranteed back, but they can give you a better idea of the types of scholarships offered in general.
How to Apply for the Skillshare Scholarship
When you find a scholarship that you think might apply to your situation, click Apply now To the right of the thumbnail is below the scholarship introduction. This takes you to the application page.
The information necessary for each scholarship will naturally vary slightly, but they all require a name, email address, and a check box to confirm that you think you fit the criteria for the scholarship.
If you are requesting a scholarship due to difficulty in providing prices, for example, you are not required to enter earning data or anything, you are just asked to check the box honestly.
All scholarship forms also contain a text field to explain why you are interested in a Skillshare membership. For some scholarships, such as student scholarships, this appears to be a formality that does not necessarily affect the applicant’s chances.
For other scholarships, especially those that have a limit on the number of people who can get the scholarship, it can be very important.
Nothing to lose and much to gain
The Skillshare Scholarship Program is a great way to make the platform accessible to people who have a lot to contribute to society.
It’s also great for people who have a lot to get from the community but might not be able to handle the platform otherwise. And best of all, there is no risk.
Applying doesn’t cost you money, and the worst that can happen is that you don’t get the scholarship. So, why not give it a try if you meet the requirements?
Both teacher-led training and self-paced learning have their own set of pros and cons. Find out which one is right for you!
